I haven't produced much for a while, except works in progress. Since two of those WIPs were for birthdays, both within a month or so of each other, I decided it was time. Both quilts were begun on my retreat last March, so were well overdue for a finish,<br />
<br />
This one was for my son-in-law who has his birthday just before Christmas. It is a Bonnie Hunter pattern (I love her stuff!) which she calls 'Strip Twist'. Lots of fun and pretty easy to make.<br />
<br />

<br />
The other quilt was for my son, who said "You already made me a quilt!" That was many years ago, so I told him, "It's time for another one!" The basis for this was the disappearing nine patch block and I used Japanese themed fabrics as my son has an interest in Japanese culture. The extra strips and the borders were to make the quilt big enough for his bed. I love the backing fabric too.<br />

I am happy to have these finished, hoping the sense of accomplishment will transfer to new projects, I have one or two small things in the works, but I will save those for another time!<br />

On Saturday I drove up the range, past Toowoomba, to a little town called Cambooya. Just outside the town, there was an open house/garden at Harrow Homestead. Since the house is rarely open to the public, I was excited to visit.<br />
<br />
After a yummy morning tea of scones (sorry no pic, I was too hungry after the drive), my friend and I strolled around the extensive gardens.<br />

We were able to go into the house and could see into all the rooms, even though we were confined to the hallway. The most striking thing about it was the extensive use of timber, for panelling and even the ceilings. Great craftsmanship in the mantelpieces and a pediment over one door. The house appears to have been built around the 1890s or early Federation.</div>

I have finally come back to earth after my time spent volunteering at the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition. What a wonderful experience! So many lovely visitors and fellow volunteers, all with something in common. Many volunteers took the opportunity to dress up for their shifts, however my sister and I waited until the last week before channeling Phryne.<br />
<br />
I don't have a photo of me in costume, however, I will share the sewing I did to complete it. Everyone knows that no self-respecting twenties lady would leave home without a hat, so I made a cloche from a pattern I found online.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfYpC-mrrDpg6HYLG0ciffvGdWn-QMjSlo8XpLgJAsL1R6A6N3xBZLENeZj9wbT72s78NhEi9jvdG1CkQurg4uEEgkh57KDh5iXL40GuoOpdFYbOufqAllklg7DjrAYyfJmTAV4ZFkKGM/s1600/IMG_20160901_101234%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfYpC-mrrDpg6HYLG0ciffvGdWn-QMjSlo8XpLgJAsL1R6A6N3xBZLENeZj9wbT72s78NhEi9jvdG1CkQurg4uEEgkh57KDh5iXL40GuoOpdFYbOufqAllklg7DjrAYyfJmTAV4ZFkKGM/s320/IMG_20160901_101234%25282%2529.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Actually quite easy to make and finished off with a feather flower.<br />
<br />
I had wanted to buy a red lipstick from the gift shop, but I left it too late and they had sold out. I did indulge in a costume catalogue so I can drool over the costumes at my leisure, as well as a lovely bit of bling!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjciAN-BHhyphenhyphenvP0VzTjbXnvpWf5nc77FhIUUjxWGfxv9ymWH-g7-vZuLZu6L-o-e-qZ51LV0VREQJMCzkt8f2k3tlMOiI1V_LFdul6EKsVXLkCDnxZXyU7Tu_TohGZ-qR03R4GBYQQnjoEk/s1600/DSCN1325%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjciAN-BHhyphenhyphenvP0VzTjbXnvpWf5nc77FhIUUjxWGfxv9ymWH-g7-vZuLZu6L-o-e-qZ51LV0VREQJMCzkt8f2k3tlMOiI1V_LFdul6EKsVXLkCDnxZXyU7Tu_TohGZ-qR03R4GBYQQnjoEk/s320/DSCN1325%25282%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that I have dusted off the sewing machine, I hope to get back to some abandoned projects. I just have to adjust my social life a bit. After all, it's a bit hard to sew if you're never at home!Carolynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05626559182579756586noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8712671886307963041.post-83606595011643141622016-07-31T17:02:00.001+10:002016-07-31T17:02:54.794+10:00Catching my breathSadly, I have no crafty goodness to blog about, I have been too busy wrapped up in 1920s glamour. Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition has come to Brisbane and I have spent a lot of time travelling back and forth, attending the official launch, volunteering as a guide and swanning around Old Government House at a Miss Fisher themed lawn party. All very exhausting!<br />
<br />
In the dress-up closet at the launch (that's me in the red)<br />

My sister and I at the Lawn Party posing in front of a 1928 Chrysler. The sunnies aren't exactly 1920s, but the sunshine made them necessary! By the way, my sister made her gorgeous frock from an authentic pattern. Isn't it stunning!</div>

As a parting gift to their customers, all stock was sold off at greatly reduced prices. I visited several times in the closing weeks and I am very thrilled with all my purchases.<br />

I have no actual crafty stuff to share, I have the lazy bug these days.<br />
Back in April, I went to the quilt show held every year in a local church. Through a series of coincidences, I met up for the first time with fellow blogger, <a href="http://thenextstage-maria.blogspot.com.au/">Maria,</a> who, I have since found out, is also known by a number of local bloggers I have been following for years. I had morning tea with Maria and her friends and a lovely time was had by all. Maria (through reading my blog) knew of my love for anything with a 'Willow Pattern' and very generously gave me a few embroidered pieces from her collection.<br />

I went looking for an Open Garden I had read about in my favourite magazine, but sadly I was unable to locate it.<br />
Undaunted, I headed to Forest Hill via some back roads when I spotted this abandoned cottage along the way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Cf9glkKoPHy5IMR90MFrGYmfzfY_vHQ4WtrxYQeoPBHetWaibx0U1feDMH5VMlXiYzkSiU4P83tNPN_Gt0pC27xZsBQ0x9Ke2bQ-l08kI4qGE6k90NUta5DociG2NVbk_8ChMws6LQU/s1600/DSCN1207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Cf9glkKoPHy5IMR90MFrGYmfzfY_vHQ4WtrxYQeoPBHetWaibx0U1feDMH5VMlXiYzkSiU4P83tNPN_Gt0pC27xZsBQ0x9Ke2bQ-l08kI4qGE6k90NUta5DociG2NVbk_8ChMws6LQU/s320/DSCN1207.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am drawn to shabby, neglected things, although they do make me sad. There was more shabby stuff in Forest Hill, although this pub is still a going concern. I was rather taken by the green stuff growing in the gutter!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My next stop was at Cafe 4342 for a spot of morning tea. The number is Forest Hill's postcode and the cafe and gift shop are extensions to the Post Office. My choice for morning tea was this delicious pear and blueberry cake.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My journey home took me through Marburg and Rosewood. There is a fabulous antique shop in Marburg, with some quirky items for sale. I think Superman may be looking for this!</div>

There is a wonderful house in Rosewood which is crying out for some attention. It is hard to see from the road and I don't like to trespass, but the overgrown entry to the property is very romantic.</div>

The weather even cooperated by being drizzly and damp, perfect sewing weather!<br />
<br />
My main project was a quilt for my son.. the last one I gave him is now thirteen years old. Although, when I told him I was making it he said, "But you already made me one".<br />
<br />
I chose most of the fabrics when I visited the Australian Quilt Convention, a year or so ago, and decided simple was best (my son is very down to earth) and went with a disappearing nine patch.<br />
This is the original block..<br />
<br />

Borders still to come. I also made a start on a quilt for my son-in-law. Apparently his old one has been almost worn to tatters. I can't claim to be very enthusiastic in this pursuit, however, during a half-hearted attempt to bring some order into the chaos that is my craft room, and possibly come up with some quick and easy projects to put in the gift shop at Wolston House, I found these unfinished projects which I think date back to the turn of the century.<br />
<br />
The cross stitch part was finished quite a while back, they just needed making up. Can't think why I didn't do it at the time, it hardly took any time at all.<br />

Who stole November? I want them to return it as soon as possible because there aren't enough days left before Christmas to do the stuff I planned.<br />
<br />
Ok.. I would need more time than November, maybe October too! These are the perils of procrastination, my chief talent these days. I need to take this advice..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcCTtKJDtoE6ZpinFraoLfiBIDXlEGfoitqyF6WC80zBLSd5KgR_dD1ftDNdWRGoIP41zTN37C9neUs0QC4nF9smYJ-q7zqZ7ZDU6PWk1Dt4ICtXt_P6OWNl_EKWEIM4vuqRYyCo7uBz0/s1600/DSCN1144.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcCTtKJDtoE6ZpinFraoLfiBIDXlEGfoitqyF6WC80zBLSd5KgR_dD1ftDNdWRGoIP41zTN37C9neUs0QC4nF9smYJ-q7zqZ7ZDU6PWk1Dt4ICtXt_P6OWNl_EKWEIM4vuqRYyCo7uBz0/s320/DSCN1144.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
One event I do remember from November was the craft fair held at Wolston House, and I'm pleased to say that the quilt featured in my last post was won by our newest (and youngest) volunteer who purchased her ticket before even viewing the quilt. She was very thrilled!<br />
<br />
The weather held (it was very overcast on the day) and a lovely time was had by all. I spent some time demonstrating on our treadle sewing machine, but most of the time I swanned around in my 1912 outfit, twirling my parasol to great effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaFHQtSnNcVV7-aiVI4q7KAeulUovXdZN-CDv1xThM1ntck-nxqFZDXGTU83ta_ZQiZyXLMbxlXYxf1lWSiPQYavIJlA8y9m04wb54hquvkD_o-eNoSeup7laF6_08jE0X0fmVMPnhnC0/s1600/IMG515.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaFHQtSnNcVV7-aiVI4q7KAeulUovXdZN-CDv1xThM1ntck-nxqFZDXGTU83ta_ZQiZyXLMbxlXYxf1lWSiPQYavIJlA8y9m04wb54hquvkD_o-eNoSeup7laF6_08jE0X0fmVMPnhnC0/s320/IMG515.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't you love the 1880s tricycle for two. We were lucky to have a whole lot of bicycles, tricycles and Penny Farthings on display, and their owners love to dress up too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVH3QVvMc6tbv-SKQEBNbqSuai3dsLa5S_mP23CirRzkI_pzE-hu8S20hR68aqSM-Wf8oOwitKOfdYExRyVv5ouG3-sdq1NGC7sxCZh86EFdUVokaozLg6ehCv4s5Itw4vmsnCKZRKO8/s1600/IMG516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdVH3QVvMc6tbv-SKQEBNbqSuai3dsLa5S_mP23CirRzkI_pzE-hu8S20hR68aqSM-Wf8oOwitKOfdYExRyVv5ouG3-sdq1NGC7sxCZh86EFdUVokaozLg6ehCv4s5Itw4vmsnCKZRKO8/s320/IMG516.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's hoping I manage one or two Christmas projects in the countdown, but let me tell you a little secret... I'm not holding my breath!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
In actual fact, it would be nowhere near finished if not for my sister, who pushed really hard and worked with me to get it done. It was a fun project because we did it together.<br />

The block we used is a four-patch square in a square, and we sort of made up the rest as we went along! It was made from fabrics we already had, which is always satisfying. Here's hoping it raises a nice sum.Carolynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05626559182579756586noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8712671886307963041.post-54355227296993684102015-10-08T19:21:00.001+10:002015-10-08T19:21:26.258+10:00A bit of history and an amazing giftA few weeks ago I was involved in an event which highlights the heritage of the lovely city I call home. The best part of the day however, came later that evening, when the call came telling me my beautiful daughter was about to receive an amazing gift.. She had been waiting for many months now for a lung transplant and thanks to a wonderful family's generosity, she has a chance for a longer life to enjoy all the things most of us take for granted. She is recovering well and is determined to honour her donor's gift by living well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am so very grateful.</div>

They hold a quilt and craft show every two years and it is always lovely to visit, the ladies are so friendly and welcoming. While all the work was lovely, one or two quilts appealed more than the others.<br />
<br />
I have always liked house quilts, and this one appears to have been made from recycled shirts. This definitely appeals to my thrifty soul!<br />

The answer is yes, a bit, but not a lot.<br />
<br />
These are Cockles, they are a bit a bit like Melting Moments, but with jam instead of icing in between.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFQ78xhHp1s1w-WZRmVfaQAQzJSibcp5m1ixaDkBx6gAdrIqRunDT7izefXuYwlhwyRWwkwUjWiTwZbDISO5wR1y57rAdKibjk6haFRserQHskmiasmFDXTWM3Stxq0LY4UrwXO42zTSM/s1600/DSCN1085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFQ78xhHp1s1w-WZRmVfaQAQzJSibcp5m1ixaDkBx6gAdrIqRunDT7izefXuYwlhwyRWwkwUjWiTwZbDISO5wR1y57rAdKibjk6haFRserQHskmiasmFDXTWM3Stxq0LY4UrwXO42zTSM/s320/DSCN1085.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And this is Marble Cake, or it could be a Marble (Bar) Cake. (A bit of a play on words for us Aussies; Marble Bar is a place in the Northern Territory).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been publishing the recipes on the Wolston Historic House Facebook page and they are always well received. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next post will show progress on the raffle quilt, my sister is a hard taskmaster!</div>

It's not true really, but some things in my life recently have been difficult for me to deal with (mostly because they are out of my control), so I have withdrawn into my little shell (my star sign <i>is</i> Cancer). There has been a lot of this happening..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And quite a bit of this...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A fair bit of heritage stuff... (yes, that's me! In Edwardian costume no less!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A certain amount of socialising... but, very little crafting. The sewing on the treadle is the beginnings of another quilt for raffling. I am being ably assisted by my sister (she is shaming me into it) so hopefully I will have something to share soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

And takingphotos! I had a lovely time with my daughter yesterday, working on a special project. A while ago, at the historic house where I volunteer, an exercise book was discovered in a cupboard. It contains hand- written recipes, dating from WW 1 to the 1920s, along with some interesting 'household hints'.<br />
I hope to put together a collection of recipes from the book and also photos of the finished products! My daughter is a great photographer, as well as an excellent baker, and we trialed two recipes.<br />
First is a Victoria Sandwich...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvhVUJgmC2_461m4j1j_HxrNVOyDvH1OAfajYLaNmyVzXBxLvxcQYAuyeeLClNgdvBtTduWjQzfGLEIqR4yxdOGOODitTvQK5tynYHCKJN3menPv8HxZW1jG3IRplt2ueuOP8AAQN6WrA/s1600/victoria+sandwich.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvhVUJgmC2_461m4j1j_HxrNVOyDvH1OAfajYLaNmyVzXBxLvxcQYAuyeeLClNgdvBtTduWjQzfGLEIqR4yxdOGOODitTvQK5tynYHCKJN3menPv8HxZW1jG3IRplt2ueuOP8AAQN6WrA/s1600/victoria+sandwich.jpg" height="320" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
...and next is coconut macaroons</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglavwYYSPY_KjcturB-kJfP9X0LmZiIoJAasEozSkThYLEQUM-AJ8pM8BZVgiXjnzdymDlnYpxAM43PBcy0Bq0r_ZuW_VV8WkbHeLBZ_3f192TJafI3qhML8J1hvI2ttdoP1f0h82uPZs/s1600/macaroons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglavwYYSPY_KjcturB-kJfP9X0LmZiIoJAasEozSkThYLEQUM-AJ8pM8BZVgiXjnzdymDlnYpxAM43PBcy0Bq0r_ZuW_VV8WkbHeLBZ_3f192TJafI3qhML8J1hvI2ttdoP1f0h82uPZs/s1600/macaroons.jpg" height="320" width="275" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are my photos by the way, my daughter set up for the food photo-shoot and I piggybacked on her expertise. If we get to publishing, hers will be the ones we use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And of course, after the photos... there was tasting! Yum!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Have a wonderful time with family and friends...Carolynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05626559182579756586noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8712671886307963041.post-77412497253538936822014-11-15T13:09:00.000+10:002014-11-15T13:09:54.325+10:00A touch of nostalgiaThey say you can never go back and I must admit it has been a <u>very</u> long time since I spent any time at the Sunshine Coast where I lived for a few years as a child. Recently I was there for a few days attending a niece's wedding at Maroochydore... what can I say; the wedding was wonderful, the weather was fabulous and I got to spend a bit of time marvelling at how much the place had changed.<br />
<br />
Until I set foot on Maroochydore beach and looked north. This view looks just as I remember from childhood (I wasn't close enough to see bathing suits. I'm pretty sure they've changed a lot since I was a kid!).<br />

The view to the south is a bit different, with lots of high rise apartments at Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headlands. Even so, it is still a very beautiful part of the world. Makes me wonder why I haven't taken the time to visit sooner.<br />

A few weeks ago I went on a day trip to Murwillumbah to visit the Tweed Regional Art Gallery. The main attraction of course was the recreated studio of an amazing artist; Margaret Olley.<br />

These photos are of the yellow room which featured prominently in her work. The painstaking work undertaken to catalogue, clean, pack and restore in the new location is mind boggling. The gallery is located outside the town, with stunning views to Mt Warning and the Border Ranges. Well worth a visit! The gallery cafe does great meals too... sorry... too busy eating to take food pics!</div>

Yum! Especially on scones!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggB4roY8cQQbMagbmZLw4ydvfFw0Uq1RAuGtTianVH3lO94itN4-A4eP-NI4sxqRL1whmZNunDL0SawkGSNi8EEaB7pwAnbKe54cyNtAOdG79CQF2blRqePYQsYSeToMlPAOyeAIzQtrA/s1600/DSCN0919(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggB4roY8cQQbMagbmZLw4ydvfFw0Uq1RAuGtTianVH3lO94itN4-A4eP-NI4sxqRL1whmZNunDL0SawkGSNi8EEaB7pwAnbKe54cyNtAOdG79CQF2blRqePYQsYSeToMlPAOyeAIzQtrA/s1600/DSCN0919(2).jpg" height="262" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My jam is actually a strawberry/ apple combo, but the apple flavour isn't noticeable, and it makes the strawberries go further. Win/win!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkbkNhwMD6hgwRqfaOc9UOkJVCPpfUJyYnsCEVkn_M9fvf79Gjfs94IMnhRYcDGYTLZmnuylLfGT13chWb36guNhkcxgr_RJF7M5_tNGNUCF8BpX8If-dlzKj71KcZfh2XLwWmxwkm1kU/s1600/DSCN0915(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkbkNhwMD6hgwRqfaOc9UOkJVCPpfUJyYnsCEVkn_M9fvf79Gjfs94IMnhRYcDGYTLZmnuylLfGT13chWb36guNhkcxgr_RJF7M5_tNGNUCF8BpX8If-dlzKj71KcZfh2XLwWmxwkm1kU/s1600/DSCN0915(2).jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I backed and bound it in red which I think has finished it nicely, along with some simple machine quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTjTdHczmWlcR4gVoh6sGbijgEGHwPy0yH1_g902ZB9ROKkz1RV6sjv_uMXe49Is-xxnCKVKUzSZtromxHYCvhOw_sDOcbIMjCLeMELCLJsS7A89Ywh7Yl6V-J0gkMFCFPXCArPOHBUMk/s1600/DSCN0917(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTjTdHczmWlcR4gVoh6sGbijgEGHwPy0yH1_g902ZB9ROKkz1RV6sjv_uMXe49Is-xxnCKVKUzSZtromxHYCvhOw_sDOcbIMjCLeMELCLJsS7A89Ywh7Yl6V-J0gkMFCFPXCArPOHBUMk/s1600/DSCN0917(2).jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also bought him a copy of the book to go with the quilt. Can't start the reading habit too soon I say!</div>

<br />
Here I am... after a much longer blogging hiatus than I intended. The recent winter months left me rather uninspired to do anything at all, much less anything creative. Spring arriving has me feeling positive again... although my thoughts are turning more towards redecorating projects than quilty or crafty ones. Although there is certain to be sewing involved at some point.<br />
<br />
I have dusted off my favourite decorating books for a bit of inspiration.<br />

<br />
I am sometimes amazed that they bloom at all, as I'm not the most consistent gardener. Aren't they lovely!<br />
<br />
I've been a bit wrapped up in heritage stuff the last couple of weeks so I thought I would share one of the gorgeous houses open in Ipswich last weekend as part of the Heritage Festival. This is 'Toronto'.<br />
